Overview

Matthias is an experienced litigator with a multi-disciplinary practice representing individuals and businesses on a variety of employment matters, utilizing his background in corporate law, economics, mathematics, and business litigation to navigate the complicated financial issues involved in employment disputes. Prior to joining Pierce Jewett, Matthias represented several large transportation companies on a wide range of commercial and employment cases, including litigation of Title VII and other discrimination cases, Fair Labor Standards Act and other wage/hour cases, and contract disputes.

Matthias has litigation and ADR experience advocating in Virginia courts, in Federal courts, in front of the American Arbitration Association, and in mediation. Matthias also counsels clients to find solutions to commercial and employment issues before they escalate to litigation.

Matthias graduated magna cum laude from Washington and Lee School of Law, where he was selected as a member of the Order of the Coif. Outside of work, Matthias regularly judges law school moot court competitions and is an avid runner and Ultimate Frisbee player. He serves as the Commissioner for Church Hill Ultimate, a local sports organization. Matthias is also an active member of Remnant Church, where he serves as a worship leader playing electric guitar. Matthias is also the incoming President-Elect for the Junior Board of Historic Richmond, a 501(c)3 non-profit that works to encourage preservation, rehabilitation, and revitalization in the greater Richmond area.
